3 Day Desert Tour to Erg Chigaga Dunes

You will be picked up from your accommodation at 08:00am and leave the busy city behind and head south to reach the Unseco world heritage site "Ait ben haddou village", the fortified ksar with its beautiful Kasbahs. You will go on a walk with a local guide crossing the river to the other side to discover The Ksar and climb to the top of the hill through the alleys of Ait-ben-Haddou. Travel to the nearby filming location of Ouarzazate. Join a film studio tour and discover which of your favorite movies were filmed in the nearby desert regions, a visit of Touarirt Kasbah and the Musée du Cinema are possible but optional. Grab your Lunch in Ouarzazate before you continue your journey to Zagora. After Lunch we continue over the Tizi-n-Tinfifte pass to Agdez. Descending from the pass you will be amazed at the view of the vast Oasis of the Draa Valley with its thousands of date palms, producing an amazing 44 varieties. This is part of the ancient road of the caravans which used to suply goods up from Mali and Niger having crossed the Sahara. The journey continues along the palm-lined valley of the Draa river. In late afternoon we will arrive to Zagora and checking into your Hotel for the night.

After breakfast head to Amezrou with a local guide, a little village at the foot of the ancient “Jewish kasbah”. This huge fortress of the 12th century is built in the middle of a palm grove. Take advantage of its charming gardens to relax for a bit, and enjoy a spot of mint tea. Afterwards, we continue our trip towards the doorway to Sahara Desert (Mhamid). Along the way, we stop in the the original town of the 16th century dynasty ( Saadian), Tamgroute, to visit an old Coran library and a subterranean kasbah. Later on we drive further south still, to M’hamid, the very gate to the desert and the end of the paved road. Here we will stop for lunch.. Then continue the off road to the Erg Chigaga Sahara Desert, crossing a huge plain scattered with dark stones and hills, also known as the black desert. Upon arrival you will ride camels to enjoy the sunset.  Along the way, enjoy the sensation of riding on the back of these gentle giants. Night and dinner in the camp in the middle of nowhere.

Wake up early to witness the sunrise from the top of the dunes of Erg Chigaga. After breakfast, say goodbye to our family Berber team in the camp.Drive north to Taznakht via the old Paris – Dakar race road to Foum Zguid crossing the natural dry Iriqui lake. We will continue north to Taznakht, which is one of the biggest centers of carpets in the kingdom. We will visit a cooperative of Berber carpets made by women of the surrounding villages. Stop for about an hour for lunch. After lunch we cross the High Atlas again to reach Marrakech at the end of the afternoon having had the best possible Saharan desert trip in Morocco.
